2018 ASID TN Gold Award Winner – Specialty Aging in Place
A mundane garage and storage room was transformed into a one bedroom, one bath cottage with a full kitchen, office space, great room, music/library area, and sunporch. There are no steps or thresholds throughout. Vinyl faux wood plank flooring was used to provide a safe, non-sip and comfortable flooring surface. LED lighting was used throughout, helping with reduced replacement costs, maintenance, and lower utilities. The bathroom has a roll-in, curbless shower with a comfort height toilet and pedestal sink. The open design of the kitchen helps the illusion of open space, while not feeling like it is a part of the living area. There is a small office area in an inset before you enter the spacious bedroom with a music/library area. Off the master bedroom a new screened-in porch provides the perfect place for morning coffee. The space is connected to the main house by a “New Orleans” feeling patio area that overlooks a pool. This comfortable and totally accessible cottage affords the client with the ability to live close to her family without being either underfoot or totally isolated. Aging in Style!
